Digital video, sound
A moving image and sound work exploring intangible weather conditions, specifically the wind, which becomes the work's focal point, rendered visible in this instance as pulses of light arhythmically emanating from a defunct ventilation fan on the side of a building. Like a pupil dilating in response to light in the body's surrounding environment, the strength of each burst of light through the fan is intrinsically connected to the force of the atmospheric conditions outside. The light becomes an organising principle for the synthesizer soundscape, which is structured around this undulating light source, the score taking its cue from the unpredictable behaviour of the wind. It thereby eschews man-made and metronomic musical forms forĀ theĀ fluid, non-sentient and mercurial tempos of the atmosphere. Light, wind and sound operate in an idiosyncratic continuum.
